Birth of Mobile Phone Affiliates

Posted by admin On April - 30 - 2007

There has been a lot of talk and little action when it comes to the convergence of mobile phones and affiliate marketing.

WordPress Mobile PluginBut that could all change now with the launch of a new WordPress Mobile Plugin. Now affiliates can make their WordPress site accessible on a mobile phone with WordPress Mobile.

After installing the plugin (very easy - just a matter of uploading one file), your posts, pages, archives and comments can then be viewed on a mobile device. Standards are supported, plus posts and comments can be submitted by mobile phone.

And the money part of it? The WordPress Mobile plugin enables affiliates to monetize their WordPress mobile site with AdMob.

AdMob shares revenue 60/40 in favor of affiliates for CPC ads and a 50/50 split for CPM Graphical Banner ads.

Get the WordPress Mobile plugin at http://www.andymoore.info/wordpress-mobile-plugin/ and start earning mobile commissions via AdMob.

Don’t forget to get the .mobi domain for your site, too. Check out AffiliateTip.mobi from your phone!

Affilorama Likes Spamorama

Posted by admin On April - 29 - 2007

It all started out as a mere annoyance. Somebody by the name of Jenna, the Affiliate Coordinator for Affilorama.com, submitted a letter to the contact form for my consulting site with the subject, “Hi there :)”.

Just a quick email, I don’t want to take up too much of you time. My name is Jenna Mathews I’m the affiliate coordinator for Affilorama (an affiliate training center). I’ve just been having a look at your website http://www.shawncollinsconsulting.com and it seems to be a) pretty good, and b) pretty complimentary to our site.

Sooo, (and here comes the sales pitch…) I thought you might be interested in joining our affiliate program which in invitation only.

Your code if you want to join is: moneybags (needed to join)

What will we give you?
- We pay 75% commission on every sale you send our way and this is recurring each month! Basically works out to be $20 each month for each person you refer.
- We can custom-make buttons or banners or whatever to suit your site layout and feel.

You can sign up or check our available images and other material at http://www.affilorama.com/affiliates/signup.php

If you’ve got any questions, queries, concerns or interesting propositions (hey, you never know what we will say!) you’re very welcome to email me back.

Typos aside, this solicitation was sent to me for my consulting site, which “Jenna” thought was “a) pretty good, and b) pretty complimentary to our site.”

I wrote back and expressed that I wanted to be removed from their list.

No response to that request, but I did get another solicitation at the same site two days later. The only difference was that it didn’t mention my URL.

Another request to be removed. Two days later - another solicitation at the same site. Same copy on the third spam as the second.

Later that day, I heard from “Jenna” about getting on AffiliateSummit.com. Same as the second and third spams, just to a different address of mine.

Another request from me to never, ever hear from her again at either address.

The next day the follow-ups started. Subject was “Hi there!”, but no smiley anymore.

Sorry to pester you again :) Just a quick follow up to the email I send you a couple of days ago to see what you think about the Affilorama affiliate program?

Do you have any questions that I can help you answer? Flick me a quick email with your questions/concerns and I can help you out.

Just to remind you this is what we offer our affiliates.
- We pay 75% recurring commission on our monthly membership.
- We can custom-make buttons or banners or whatever to suit your site layout and feel.

If you lost the invitation code it’s: moneybags

Hope to hear from you soon :)

Guess what I did? I asked to be removed from their list, but with a little stronger language this time.

Two more days pass and I get the same follow-up. The next day, I got the follow up another two times.

That brings us to the present day. My frequent correspondent, “Jenna Mathews,” has yet to reply to me.

Hey “Jenna” and the rest of the gang over at Affilorama.com - don’t go away mad (just go away).

Best Business Card at ad:tech - Clickspeed.com

Posted by admin On April - 27 - 2007

I was just going through my rather sizable stack of business cards from ad:tech in San Francisco and one stuck out. It came from Ryan Zimmerman of Clickspeed.

Those Clickspeed guys always seem to come out with a different, funny business card at each show, but this was my favorite to date.

Front of Ryan Zimmerman's business card

Back of Ryan Zimmerman's business card

Nice job over there - you accomplished what nobody else did from the hundreds of cards I gathers in San Francisco. You cut through the clutter and made me want to talk about you.

Monetize YouTube with Google AdSense

Posted by admin On April - 27 - 2007

There’s lots of buzz about video being so hot and affiliates are trying to figure out how they can cash in on it. There is a site where you can create your own video community and generate revenue through Google Adsense and Revver called Magnify.net.

Magnify sites include several types of advertising messages:

  • Text Links and Banner Ads Magnify shows contextual advertising messages in the margins of some pages.

  • Integrated Advertising Some videos syndicated from third-party hosting services contain integrated advertising. (For example, videos hosted by Revver include an advertisement after the end of the video.)
  • Video Pre-Roll A few Magnify sites are currently testing a pre-roll offering that plays a 10-30 second video advertisement before some video views.

Magnify.net provides upload, storage, and bandwidth free, and the revenue share on advertising is 50/50.

I recently met Steve Rosenbaum, CEO of Magnify Networks, and he gave a quick summary of Magnify.net. So I’ll let him explain…

It’s really simple - if you’re thinking about putting video on your Web site, and you’re thinking I need an uploader, I need a page, I need someplace to store video, I need a way to organize it and a way to deliver it, basically what Magnify has done is bundled together all of those products into one package. So anyone who has an existing Web site can build a channel using Magnify really quickly. Or if you don’t have your own Web site, you can use Magnify to build your own video channel. The idea is that it’s simple, it’s free, it’s fun, and we have a great community off developers, so there are always new templates and ways to explore the service. it’s been growing really nicely, so you should play with it.

I’ve been using Magnify for a while for the Affiliate Summit Video Channel, and just the other day I created Affiliate Tip TV on there. I literally created it in minutes.

Lots of features with this system, including the ability to include blog posts and a video upload for a video blog, widgets to promote your video channel, easily customized templates, integration of the popular video hosts like YouTube and MySpace, site statistics, and RSS feeds.

Check it out at http://www.magnify.net/.
